The grim warning was issued as the ship docked in Ensenada, Mexico

A cruise ship captain took the time to write an urgent warning to passengers as the ship docked in Mexico.

Carnival Cruises tours various locations around the world, including the Caribbean, the Bahamas, Alaska and Mexico (just to name a few).

With the variety of places they go to in mind, it’s understandable that the crew is aware of the locations they visit and will sometimes offer advice.

And the captain of one of the ships recently wrote a letter to the guests when they arrived in Ensenada.

Yesterday (Thursday, May 2), a photo of an undated letter was uploaded to Reddit.

It read: “As you prepare for our visit to Ensenada, we have an important piece of advice.

“In Ensenada Port, you may encounter restaurants/attractions (not associated with the ship’s shore excursion program) where you can touch or otherwise interact with tiger cubs. For public health, safety and environmental reasons, Carnival recommends that you not to participate in such attractions, including, but not limited to, tiger cub attractions.”

On the Carnival Cruises website advertising Ensenada attractions, petting tiger cubs is not one of them. Instead, they offer excursions such as deep-sea fishing, kayaking tours, and a trip to the El Cielo Vineyard & Winery.

People have since responded to the Reddit post, explaining that such tourist attractions, like petting tiger cubs, are unfortunately not exclusive to Ensenada.

“It was the same in Cabo,” one person replied on the thread. “We were told the cubs had been slightly drugged to keep them docile. We never saw them but were warned several times. It’s really sad.”

Another said of Ensenada: “All true. I was in Ensenada for a year and befriended the barista next to the tiger club, she gave me the whole rundown.”

Meanwhile, others applauded Carnival for trying to discourage people from visiting such crafts.

One person wrote: “This is a huge step in the right direction. I hope they can also mention dolphins and whales in captivity as Mexico can be quite cruel in the way they treat their animals. Seeing these beautiful creatures locked away for convenience is heartbreaking.”

“I really appreciate the sentiment of this, I just wish they also indicated that animal welfare is a reason not to participate,” a second added.

Echoing Carnival Cruises’ concerns, dozens of animal welfare groups around the world have spoken out against attractions like cub petting.

According to FOUR PAWS Australia, there are parts of South Africa that offer these types of services and this comes with a range of risks.

As for what you can do to stop these things, the charity encourages people to stay away from attractions, refuse to visit breeding or hunting farms and ‘look for any sign of animal breeding, handling animals or animals on display’. for visitors’.
