By Zoila Palma González: On May 2, 2024, Fortis Belize released a statement expressing its commitment to generate as much electricity as possible to meet needs.

“Fortis Belize has all hands-on deck at the Mollejon, Chalillo and Vaca dams. The current supply shortage from Mexico in the dry season makes us really appreciate the Chalillo Reservoir, because the water collected during the rainy season allows us to generate hydroelectricity at maximum capacity and send it to the grid,” said Company.

Fortis Belize is the largest domestic electricity supplier to BEL and noted that it met as much as 45% of electricity demand.

“We are closely monitoring the situation and will continue to generate as much electricity as possible to meet energy needs,” the company said.
