New Zealand will face Indonesia or Guinea in the opening match of the Paris Olympics

New Zealand’s OlyWhites will face Indonesia or Guinea as their first opponents at the Paris Olympics.

Indonesia finished fourth at the 2024 AFC U-23 Asian Cup and will earn an intercontinental play-off against Africa’s Guinea on May 9.

The winners will join New Zealand, France and the United States in Group A at the Summer Olympics, which start on July 25, 2024.

Iraq defeated Indonesia in the play-off for third place at the U-23 Asian Cup, meaning they move into Group B.

Japan defeated Uzbekistan 1-0 in the final of the Asian tournament on Saturday, May 4, to qualify for Group D, while Uzbekistan advanced to Group C.

New Zealand’s opening match at the Olympic Games will be against Indonesia or Guinea at the Stade de Nice, Nice, in the south of France, on Thursday, July 25, 2024, with a kick-off time of 3am (NZT).

The tournament will be held from July 24 – August 10, 2024.

The men’s football tournament at the Olympic Games

Men’s football at the Olympic Games is limited to players under the age of 23 (born on or after January 1, 2000), although each team can select up to three players of older age.

Competition locations for the tournament are Paris, Bordeux, Décines-Charpieu (near Lyon), Marseille, Nantes, Nice and Saint-Étienne.
