I want to see more attacking and fast bowling from Siraj and Yash, says RCB head coach Flower

BENGALURU: As they return to the M Chinnaswamy Stadium after almost three weeks, Royal Challengers Bengaluru are heading into the final third of the IPL 2024 campaign with optimism. A key part of RCB’s back-to-back wins in Hyderabad and Ahmedabad was their attacking fast bowling; Head coach Andy Flower is keen to see more of that from the likes of Mohammed Siraj and Yash Dayal in today’s match against Gujarat Titans for the 12th Man Army.

“Our batsmen will definitely be looking to bat there in the middle, not only on a good batting deck but also in front of our brilliant crowd. What I liked to see is our fast bowling unit bowling in a really attacking manner. We have seen them take more wickets in the powerplay in the last three matches. So we are looking at more attacking fast bowling from the likes of Yash Dayal and especially Siraj, who was outstanding especially with his yorkers,” head coach Flower said on RCB’s match day.

With four matches left in RCB’s IPL season, Flower is maintaining his confidence. “The hope for the play-offs is still alive and that is a fantastic position. Obviously we would have liked to be much closer to the play-offs than we are now, but we are still here, the chances are still there and we still believe in it,” he said.

Meanwhile, captain Faf du Plessis is proud of the way his side have shown character and turned things around in recent games. “There is always pressure to perform, that is part of the game. There is also pressure when you win, you have to perform. For me, the nice thing from a captaincy point of view is that we are playing the style of cricket that we have wanted to play for a long time, so it is more of a stroke of luck that we are doing justice to ourselves, whereas before it was the opposite.

“Proud of the boys and the way they held their own. It takes a lot of character when you’re down, so the boys have responded really well and the way they’ve played in the last three games has been really good,” said Du Plessis.

There has been some rain leading up to tonight’s game, but coach Flower doesn’t think it will be a big factor. “The rain didn’t really change much in our preparation or selection. It’s brilliant that Chinnaswamy has such a good drainage system so I don’t think that’s a big factor but I do know that Bengaluru needs the water so it’s great to have some of this beautiful rain,” said coach Flower.
