Looking for a quick, easy way to reach Abaco, Bahamas?

Tropic Ocean Airways now offers scheduled service from Palm Beach International Airport to Marsh Harbor International Airport. The nine-seat planes began flying May 1 from Palm Beach Atlantic Aviation, which has a private terminal just south of the PBIA terminal on Southern Boulevard. Passengers can arrive as little as 30 minutes before a flight.

Founded in 2009, the airline offers scheduled and private charter services from Fort Lauderdale. It has a number of seaplanes, but the planes flying out of PBIA are wheeled.

As for why Tropic Ocean has expanded into the West Palm Beach market, a spokesperson said the company “has noticed a trend among our customers traveling to the Abacos, often starting their journey from Palm Beach County or north into the Treasure Coast “We want to serve our customers as best we can, and leaving (West) Palm Beach helps us do that.”

The new route will run twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays. The flight time is approximately 80 minutes.

Passengers will still have to go through security, but the process won’t be as extensive as a TSA check. Tropic Ocean may increase the frequency of flights to Abaco and introduce additional routes from West Palm Beach in the coming months, a Tropic spokesperson said. Despite the quick journey, prices won’t be cheap. They range from $237 to $450 per seat, one way.

“We are excited to introduce scheduled flights between (West) Palm Beach and Marsh Harbor,” said Rob Ceravolo, the CEO and founder of Tropic Ocean Airways. “Expanding our operations to Palm Beach (County) is a natural progression for us.”

Passengers have access to a private lounge and free parking at Atlantic Aviation. Tropic Ocean is also pet friendly. For more information about the airline, visit the FlyTropic.com website.
