WISCONSIN, United States – A Wisconsin elementary school teacher is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with one of her students.

According to a report from CBS News, a complaint was filed in St Croix County on Thursday accusing 24-year-old Madison Bergmann of inappropriate behavior toward the 11-year-old fifth grader. She was charged with first-degree child sexual abuse of a child under the age of 13.

CBS News reports that police were called to River Crest Elementary School in Hudson, Wisconsin and were shown screenshots of multiple text conversations between the victim and Bergmann about their encounters, which allegedly took place in the classroom during lunch or after school.

The texts were reportedly discovered when the victim’s phone was confiscated by his mother, who allegedly caught him talking to Bergmann. During a subsequent search of Bergmann’s belongings, officers reportedly discovered letters from both Bergmann and the victim, reminiscing about their kisses.

CBS News reports that Bergmann allegedly wrote in one of the letters, “One of my cousins is in the fifth grade and I can’t imagine a man talking to her the way we talk. I know we have a special relationship and I love you more than anyone in the world, but I have to be the adult here and stop.

Bergmann has since been released from police custody on a $25,000 bond and is not allowed on school grounds or at school events. Her next court appearance is scheduled for May 30.
