Oman will hold a pre-tournament camp in Barbados in preparation for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup

Oman announced its World Cup selection on Wednesday.

Oman will be the first team to arrive in the West Indies for the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The Asians will host a pre-tournament camp in Barbados from May 14 to 24, ahead of the start of the global event, which will be hosted in the West Indies and the USA.

While in Barbados they will have training sessions and three T20 matches: two against a Barbados Select XI and one match against University of the West Indies. The matches against Barbados are scheduled for May 20 and 22 and the match against UWI on May 23.

The camp is organized by Roland Butcher, the former England batsman and West Indies Senior Men’s Selector. Butcher said: “It is great that the Oman team is coming to Barbados early for their pre-tournament camp. They will use the period to get used to the conditions as quickly as possible. We are happy to have them in Barbados; this country is the ideal place to start their preparations. We believe that the time spent here will be extremely helpful for them to put in a good performance in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.”

Former Sri Lanka Captain and Oman Head Coach and Chief Development Officer Duleep Mendis said: “We are happy to get to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup early and we are looking forward to our camp in Barbados. It’s one of those cricket venues we all dream of visiting and we want to make the most of our time in preparation. We have high ambitions in this tournament and we want to focus on our plans from the moment we land in a country known for its cricket culture and heroes.”

Oman announced its World Cup selection on Wednesday. Batting all-rounder Aqib Ilyas has been named Oman’s captain for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which starts on June 1. Ilyas was unveiled as skipper in the team’s squad announcement, with former captain Zeeshan Maqsood retaining his place in the group.

The 2024 edition of the ICC T20 World Cup will be Oman’s third appearance in the last four editions of the marquee event, marking the success and consistency of its appearance at the global level.
