Espoo, FIN – Gavin McKenna stands alone in Canadian hockey history at the U18 World Cup in Finland during Canada’s 5-4 semi-final victory over Sweden this morning.

McKenna made history with Canada’s second goal of the first period as he passed Tyson Jost and Macklin Celebrini for the most points scored by a Canadian skater with 16 points. (six goals, 10 assists).

Canada took a 4-0 lead after the first thanks to goals from Liam Greentree, McKenna, Tij Iginla & Ryder Ritchie.

Henry Mews would lead the Canadians to 5-2 after 40 minutes of play. Sweden would make it a two-goal game at 7:58. Hugo Orrsten would make it 5-4 at 2:19 p.m., but Canadian goaltender Carter George stayed on his feet the rest of the way. Booking Canada’s ticket for the final.

Canadian captain Porter Martone & Cater George, also named top players for the U18s McKenna, took home the honours.

McKenna and Team Canada head to the Gold Medal game against the United States on Sunday morning. Game time is set at 9:00 AM/MT and can be viewed on TSN.
