WESTMORELAND, Jamaica – Two men have been charged with murder and malicious wounding after the shooting of a 36-year-old security guard from Flower Hill in St. James.

According to law enforcement officials, 57-year-old Wilford Cooke, also known as “Kong,” and 21-year-old Lavaughn Cooke, also known as “Jah Jah,” allegedly opened fire on the deceased, Nastacia Smith, inside her home on Sunday. 17th of March.

Freeport police say Smith and her relative were in their home with other family members around 3:30 p.m. when the men, both armed with firearms, entered the yard and allegedly opened gunfire on them through a bedroom window before escaping into the yard . area.

Police were alerted and upon arrival, Smith was seen lying on her back in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound to her chest. She was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Another woman, who was injured in the incident, was treated and released.

Both men were later arrested and charged.

Their court hearing is completed.
