Two men charged with murder in Flower Hill and St. James | News

Two men have been charged with fatally shooting a woman and wounding her female relative at their home in Flower Hill, St James in March.

Charged with murder and malicious wounding are 57-year-old Wilford Cooke, also known as “Kong,” and 21-year-old Lavaughn Cooke, also known as “Jah Jah,” who also live in the Flower Hill district.

They are charged with the murder of 36-year-old security guard Nastacia Smith on Sunday, March 17.

Freeport police reported that Smith and her relative were in their home with other family members about 3:30 p.m. when both men, armed with firearms, entered the yard and opened gunfire on them through a bedroom window before escaping into the area.

Police were alerted and upon arrival, Smith was seen lying on her back in blood with a gunshot wound to her chest.

She was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead and the other woman was treated and released.

Both Wilford and Lavaughn Cooke were arrested and subsequently charged.

Their court hearing is completed.
