FBI report names South Bend, IN one of America’s most dangerous

Here in Indiana, you won’t find the same level of Hoosier hospitality everywhere. We know there is crime in every city, but some are worse than others. Which city takes the cake (or rather: the warning tape) for being the most dangerous? You probably already have one in mind (I did), and you’re probably wrong (I was).

There are several factors to consider when determining how dangerous a city is, and the crime rate should be at the top of the list. U.S. News & World Report gathered the official data straight from the FBI and released a list of the 25 most dangerous cities in America, including one in Indiana, unfortunately.

Based on homicide and property crime rates per 100,000 residents in metropolitan areas, determined by FBI crime reports, these are the most dangerous places to live in the United States.

You have to go to Northern Indiana to find the most dangerous city in the state, and no, it is NOT Gary. In fact, according to the most recent data, SOUTH BEND is the most dangerous city in Indiana and the 22nd most dangerous city in America.

Fun fact: If you’re wondering why the city is called SOUTH Bend when it’s located in Northern Indiana, it’s because the city is located near the southernmost bend of the St. Joseph River.

To be fair, the crime rate (and subsequent ranking) is just one aspect of life in South Bend. There are plenty of positives too, including a low cost of living and a revitalized downtown and riverfront.

Most of these towns got their names in the mid-1800s when settlers moving through the country found unclaimed plots of land and decided to make them their own. While I imagine they thought the names they came up with were innocent, and perhaps an homage to something in their lives, pop culture has since warped our minds so much that we can’t help but think of something about the city that was. never intended by the founders. Take a look at this list. I guarantee there is at least one name that will make you chuckle.
